Hi Lactnetters--
This is fromTina Smillie and Alicia Dermer, who met thru Lactnet and are now
roommates at the Chicago Hilton-- we met today Pat Drazin, Cynthia Payne and
Anne Adrianos ( and KA across the room)-- Most of us attended the session
with Liz Feldman and Linda Black, maintaining lactation during separation
(sick babies and employment) with an audience thick with names we have all
read or heard speak, which made for some very stimulating discussion--
very exciting so far.

Question from an LC at our dinner table tonight-- can any of you e-mail us
information you might have about mothers' experience with the Nurture III--
this would be for an employed mom who wants to purchase a pump--

Thanks,

Tina and Alicia from a laptop w/modem...

Hello Tina and Alicia,

How I envy you all at LLLI! Could only afford one conference this year and
Scottsdale means no airfare. Enjoy yourselves and bring us all a report
from LLLI at ILCA.

Per your request for data about the Nurture III. I sell about 10 to 15
Nurture III per month. I have found they work well for about 75 to 80% of
the moms that try it. It has more bang for the buck than any other pump on
the market. The moms who have difficulty with this pump usually have
difficulty letting down to a pump that cycles only 25 to 35 times per
minute, do not fit anatomically, or do not like using their finger to cycle
the pump. One other criticism that I run into from the moms is that they
must have electricity to run the pump, no battery back up. Most moms find
that it takes about 12 to 15 minutes to double pump a full feeding.

Because it does not work for every one, I do recommend that they try one of
the kits we have in the store (yes, I do autoclave between uses). I find if
the mom gets 2 oz in five minutes or less, or has at least 2 MERs, it will
work very well. With the opportunity to try before they buy I only get one
or two returns per year, generally from moms who have chosen not to test
drive the pump.

I think Barry and Zelma (a.k.a. Bailey Medical Engineering) were going to
have a booth at both LLLI and ILCA. If you get a chance to chat with them,
do it. They run one of the most honest, upstanding businesses that I have
ever dealt with at any time. See you next week in Scottsdale. BTW high
today was 111 degrees (that is 44 for those of you figuring Celsius).

All the best from Phoenix,

Linda Pohl, IBCLC
