Babies who get formula, in my experience, are also over-fed, especially at
night - moms want to be sure to TOP OFF the baby - and THIS may be another
reason that they sleep more (remember Thanksgiving afternoon/evening?)...

Our grandson (breastfed) does NOT sleep more when he gets bottles of breast
milk OR formula (when mom, at work, can't pump enough, he gets formula) -
but the sitter has been strictly instructed to CUE feed him, and not to try
to overfill him - especially if mom is due soon. So at 8 months he has
NEVER taken more than 3 ounces from a bottle...and does not sleep more than
2.5 hours day or night!

However, this weekend at a family gathering I observed a mom feeding her
adopted baby (7 weeks old, but 5 weeks premature) and proudly POURING 5
ounces of formula into her baby... (She was also using a Moby Wrap baby
carrier continuously throughout the day - but when she fed her, held her
away from her body - interesting to see.)

It seems that this is an OVER-feeding issue - the need to get babies to
SLEEP for hours on end - and the reinforcement that parents get - because
babies DO sleep more and deeper when they are overfed!

...and talk about money makers - the number of books being sold in
bookstores, on line and by word of mouth about sleeping is staggering!
Parents measure their parenting success, in many cases, by how well they get
babies to space out their feedings and sleep!
