Update on my client that has a baby scheduled for surgery:
I contacted Barbara Popper who made some helpful suggestions, such as
nursing on an emptied breast (for comfort)as being allowable.
My client spoke with someone else in the anesthesia dept to question
about how soon after surgery nursing could resume and he didn't have a
problem with as soon as the baby wished to. He was the father of
breastfed children :-) When she questioned him about the 6hr npo except
clear fluids though he stated that a study done in1997in Toronto at the
Hospital for Sick Children concluded that breastmilk was in fact more
aggravating than say Pedialyte and should not be considered a "clear
fluid". Dr Jack do you know anything about this "study"?
