You all may remember my friend who delivered her triplets at 25 3/7 weeks,
whose 2 little girls died, and whose little boy was in NICU for nearly 3
mos. He has been home now for almost 3 mos, and is exclusively breastmilk
fed (after a long struggle with the neonatologist who kept insisting on
different formula fortification which the baby could not tolerate.) Mom
continues to have a great supply, and stays ahead of the baby easily. She
has asked me now to look for resources for her for helping this baby to
breastfeed better directly. Her little guy struggles with direct
breastfeeding, and never seems satisfied, and she rarely feels a letdown
when he nurses, although she says she doesn't always when she pumps either.
She almost always feels the need to top him up after breastfeeding. His
growth is great - he's almost 11 lbs about being born at 1 lb 11 oz. She is
considering giving up putting him to breast altogether, but wonders if there
are any good techniques to help get him to breastfeed better. I'm wondering
particularly if there are any print or online resources I can point her to?
