Here is an update on the twins I posted about a week or so ago. To recap,
they were born 36.4 wks. by C-section. Weights boy 5lb. 5oz. and girl 6lb.
3oz. Mother had breast reduction surgery 5 years ago. This Mom is frustrated
because at present she is only producing half of what the babies need in
breastmilk. She is supplementing with formula for the other half. She wants
to meet all the babies needs at the breast. She taking Fenugreek 3 Tablets -
3 X day. She is going to start also on Blessed Thistle 4 Tablets - 3 X day.
Any suggestions would be helpful. She goes back to work the first week of
July and plans to pump for them then. Is it because of the surgery her milk
supply is compromised? She said that is was the kind of surgery where the
nipples were cut around. I am trying to encourage her. I told her she is
doing all she knows to do. With her permission I told I would ask for all of
your wisdom to help. She is happy to be able to breastfeed at all but wants
to make more milk for her babies. I told her to comfort nurse as well as
nurse for their nutritional needs any nursing helps to make more milk.
Thank you all in advance.
Tammie Gregory, CD (DONA), Breastfeeding Peer Counselor for WIC,
Homeschooling Mom to 7, all breastfed.
On a personal side note .... Joined the IBCLC want 2 B yahoo group
yesterday. Have been reading post from the last few months. Trying to see if
this is something realistic for me to pursue. Having no college but a great
passion and compassion to help other mothers with birthing and breastfeeding,
I am trying to see which of the paths I could take to get there. It is still
a little overwhelming and confusing. With no college education I will have to
have 2500 in breastfeeding counseling hours compared to 6000-8000, from what
my understanding is so far.
