Hi, I disagree, I wear uniforms and only function as an LC and I am
constantly using my valuable time to do patient care that is not
Lactation related. We are not allowed to tell patients, let me get your
nurse or aide, because "it is everyones job" I could be more efficient
and help more breastfeeding moms if I went back to street clothes and a
lab coat or at least a distinctive uniform from the rest of the nursing
staff. I am the only one at meetings not in a suit with skirt, if a
female, and notice my ideas are dismissed more often than others.
Appearance counts. I don't remember the source of the report but in an
EMR setting nurses were taken more seriously when wearing lab coats.
