I worked in the ICU last month, and one day we were informally discussing
tube feeds, gut motility, and GI prophylaxis in adults on ventilators. The
critical care fellow actually brought up domperidone, saying, "there's this
great drug, better than Reglan, called domperidone, but you can't get it
anymore. There used to be a pharmacy in North Carolina that had it, but I
don't know if you can still get it there. We used it all the time in
Europe." He was astonished when I told him that some women use it to
enhance milk production, and thought it was hysterical that I'd ordered some
myself from globaldrug.tv. And then there was an emergency so we didn't get
to discuss it further, but I was impressed that he knew about and even
recommended its use. (And boy, that drug works. As an EPer I was able to
exactly track the results: my milk supply plummeted to 15oz/day when I
dropped to 3 pumps, but taking 80mg a day brought it up to nearly 30oz/day
without needing to increase my time spent pumping. Then was able to titrate
the dose down, drop a pump, and maintain 16-18oz/day with 2 sessions on
50mg/day.)
