I don't think I ever saw an answer to Heidi Murphy's question about "lick and
promise style."  I had never heard the expression used as relates to
breastfeeding.  However, the expression means to do something (such as
cleaning, usually) in a hurried manner with a promise to do it more
thoroughly later.  I assume that an older baby who nurses "lick and promise
style" nurses only briefly.  Bonnie
