Penny: I am also an LLL leader and part time practicing LC. I take great care
to keep the two separate.

When I see a mom as an LC, I often end by providing her with an LLL meeting
notice for her part of the metropolitan area, showing several groups on it. If
it is for my part of town, I do not mention at the time that the 'Phyllis' on it
is me. (All leader names are first names only on the LLL meeting notice).

If she happens to show up at my LLL group, she becomes an LLL group mom for me,
and I never charge her again, because she knows me as her LLL leader. (I also
tell her that privately outside of the meeting.) If she should need a consult
again, I will either work with her as an LLL leader without 'holding back' on
any information or skills at my disposal, or I refer her to another LC for a
formal 'for fee' consult. It's her choice.

In LLL meetings, we never discuss IBCLC certification, and ESPECIALLY not that I
have it and my co-leader doesn't. She is a competent leader, our experiences
are different and complement each other, and certification is not and should not
be an issue in LLL. We may discuss the fact that there are private practice LCs
in the community. If mom wants more info, I will give her a list of 3 or more
in the immediate area, and my name is NOT one of them. (BTW: Susan Prevatt on
Lactnet is my co-leader).

So far, I have not met with a new LC client only to discover that we have met
before in my LLL group. It is bound to happen eventually. I will either see
her as an LC pro-bono, or refer her to another LC who will see her on a for-fee
basis, whichever the mom chooses. I also see welfare moms at no fee.

If a mom calls me on the phone for BF info, and I feel she needs a one-on-one, I
find out first where she got my name before I suggest the consult.

Comments - kudos - brickbats?!
