I already put this on Facebook Lactnet and there are many puzzling this out already. How about taking this puzzle on?

Just so you know, the Columnist made a comment steering respondents away from botulism which is the most prevalent suggestion from respondents.  The columnist only mentioned honey which leaves room for other potential sources of botulism -- but its unclear whether that was meant as a distraction to steer people away from what was a correct guess or to actually encourage them towards a different condition that was the actual diagnosis.
