I would suggest that in addition to the interventions you suggested, pumping
being a good one from the beginning, I would suggest the nipple shield, in
concert with the pumping. I had one mother who had severely inverted
nipples, and after a time of pumping and using the shield, the baby did
eventually get on to the breast without the shield. Another couple I
assisted ended up using the shield, with pumping, throughout the
breastfeeding career, as he never could get on without it.
