Dear all:

I'm sure I cannot replicate the articulate presentation that Diane did last week. She had stages in the
development of our understanding of the latch. I cannot remember what she called that last stage,
but I had one of those dream visits that was near nirvana. Perhaps because the mother was a yoga
instructor, she had created the ideal environment for her infant despite having a planned C-section.
I swear I felt as if I were visiting a mother who had undergone a home birth. All I did was add the
skin to skin contact with baby stretched across mom Rebecca Glover style and the baby self-attached
in the most comfortable latch the mother had ever experienced. I never touched the mom's breasts,
never let the baby suck on my finger-cotted finger, never pushed mom's hand.

May you all have such a visit within the next month!

So, yes, I do firmly believe that birthing has a lot to do with a mother's attachment to her infant, but
there are some mother's who still retain that insight into their own bodies that they can compensate
beautifully.

Best regards, Susan Burger
