Not sure of the theology there, Lucy (and I don't think this is the forum
to get into *that*) ...but I think you are spot on with the fear that
babies are 'allowed' to 'control' us....this is very scary for some people.

A very common expression used here (don't know if it's especially British
English or not) which I have heard many times in my own extended  family
and from several other families:

'You have to show them (ie the babies) who's boss!'


Well, no prizes for guessing just how friendly that statement is to
breastfeeding...
