Hello all,

I was asked an interesting question, maybe one of you has an answer.
A three week old baby was diagnosed with G6PD defficiency (fairly common
here). The variety here in Israel is the one with sensitivity to fava beans
(favism). Mom ate fava beans (have no idea why). Can she continue
breastfeeding? Pump and dump? How long? What about drugs contraindicated in
G6PD def?

I didn't have an answer, but because some G6PD defficient poeple can get
life threatening hemolysis even from small amounts of wrong substances, and
because the baby is so young I recomended pump and dump for 24 hours. So
far I haven't heard anything more. (I was contacted by a lactation
consultant, not directly by the mother)

What would you do?
