I think the use of the SNS is a great idea. I have previously helped a mum
who's baby had down's syndrome and needed cardiac surgery and the doctors
didn't want her breastfeeding as it would be to tiring for the baby. She
was pumping and and she noticed that her milk seperated when stored and she
asked me if maybe she could take the "cream" from a couple of feeds and mix
it. I said why not try (we had 2 days to get the weight up with only
breastfeeding or she was told she would not be allowed to put the baby to
the breast at all while in hospital as it was to stressful). Alas she did
this with the SNS and baby started gaining. This baby loved to breastfeed
and even with all his problems continued to nurse beyond a year. If this
mum doesn't have enough milk you have a breast milk bank in Vancouver BC.
