Marie,

Please don't let this one incident color the way you feel as a professional
or as a person!  This Mom obviously has terrible misperceptions about more
than just your encounter.  You mentioned that she told you that the nursery
nurses "would not let her have her baby".  Twelve hours seems like an
awfully long time to me for the nursery nurses to "keep a baby away" from
the mother. I believe that the problem here is that this mother may be
having a tough time dealing with her birth (maybe she is resentful of a
c-section) and is feeling overwhelmed at becoming a parent. This is
obviously not a very constructive defense mechanism but the problem is hers
not yours.  Hang in there and just think about the many many other mothers
that you are able to help every day!
