Dear friends,

I have a question regarding breastfeeding / milkproduction after
breasttrauma on one side. I have particular mothers in mind, but havenīt
asked for their consent, so I will just pose a general question.

One breast has had severe trauma in one area - like in one half of the
breast - assumingly damaging at least the milkducts of that area, but
perhaps leaving the lactocytes/alveoli intact. After birth the baby feeds on
both breasts and milk accordingly become more plentiful as the days go by.
The healthy breast and the unaffected part of the traumatized
breast produces milk normally, but what happens with the milk produced above
the traumatized area, as there isnīt any milkflow due to the damaged ducts.
Can the mother continue nursing on the affected breast? Or if she continues
nursing from the affected breast will the milkproducing cells with no
connection "out" due to the damaged ducts eventually involute and become
passive, since they arenīt emptied? Does the FIL factor work in the
individual lactocyte? If that is so - the mother will ofcourse have to keep
watch on the area untill her body "gets the message".

As I tried to pose this question I have an inkling as to what the answer is,
but since Iīm not sure - and have great respect for your collective
experience I will post this anyway. Thank you!
