Hi All,
ABout this baby...
Ok, she is 4 mo old, but 2 mo old from her due date, right? Well, isn't
this the time that most babies (term) begin changing their stooling patterns?
The premies I have worked with have all changed their stooling patterns at
one time or another, some a bit earlier than the 6 wk post due date, some a
bit later. I think this may be one of those situations where we need to
watch the baby. If baby is doing fine in all ways, why worry? Why
introduce potentially irritating, unneeded "stuff" into the baby's system?
If the baby quit stooling and started having problems with weight gain,
eating, urinating, or was obviously uncomfortable or in pain, then my
opinion is that that would be the time to check things out.
Has the mom talked with the Neonatologist to find out about these things?
Is the baby's Ped used to working with BF babies? How about the Peds
expertise with premies and premie development?
If it were my child, I would not worry. I wish I had references for you,
but all this is from working on a long term basis with 100's of moms with
premies.

Good luck!
