Subject: Re: cutting tip off nipple shield

Does anyone know of any contraindications to cutting off the tip of a
nipple shield to encourage weaning from the nipple shield? One reason is
that the cutting may leave a sharp edge on the shield that could cause
trauma to the infant. But is there anything else?

I had a mother call me because she had cut the tip off of her silicone nipple
shield at the suggetion of the one who gave it to her. Her nipple had become
strangled in the opening and she needed help cutting it off.......Liz Flight
