Hello All-
I have noticed a tendency in my Asian patients for the breasts to be firm and high, with short nipples that have prominent tissue in the nipple itself (like a knob), but not much length in the areola. So it is more of a challenge for the baby to get a deep latch. The mothers with this type of breast anatomy thus tend to have more challenges with sore nipples.

I've also noticed the babies of these moms often have a very hungry day or two before the milk comes in, with lots of crying. These factors have made it a challenge for me as LC to preserve exclusivity of breastfeeding, because with sore nipples and a baby that acts hungry all the time, many families ask for a supplement.

Can anyone from the list add to or corroborate these observations? Is anyone aware of any Asian cultural traditions that would help preserve bfdg exclusivity in the early days before milk comes in?

Please respond to me personally as well as posting the list.
Thanks
