Dear Listmates,

ACOG ISSUES NEW COMMITTEE OPINION ON BREASTFEEDING Last week the American
College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) issued a committee
opinion, Breastfeeding: Maternal and Infant Aspects, published in this month's issue
of the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology.
You could have blown me over with a feather when one of the OB's on our unit
came looking for me to give me this document. It was the copy sent to him
by ACOG and he said he knew that I would appreciate having it. I was just
about to e-mail the medical librarian at the hospital to request a copy of it.
I made good use of it and immediately typed out and printed the statement
about sore nipples generally being caused by poor positioning and latch. It was
put up on the breastfeeding bulletin board in our nurses' breakroom as the
"quote of the month." For the "Best Practice Clinical Tip of the month" I put
up the sequential latching picture that our colleague Diane Wiessinger has
available in her materials that one can purchase.
