Dear Friends:

When the correct growth charts are used, the breastfed babies will show up
within normal ranges.

This notion applies to the first few days of life also.....if the formula
fed baby doesn't loose much weight, that is a concern, a possible risk for
future overweight and obesity. The baby that is breastfed 8 to 10 times in
24 hours for the first few days of life will loose more weight than the
matching formula-fed baby.

So who is the one we should be worried about?

(not the breastfed baby!)

warmly,

Nikki Lee RN, BSN, Mother of 2, MS, IBCLC, CCE, CIMI
