Hi All,
I had no problems BF my first son (12.5 yrs ago) lying down. I had a soft
mattress and a wall to lean up against, so it seemed like the easiest thing
to do in the middle of the night was to just use the wall for support, maybe
put a pillow or two against the wall to make it soft. With my 2nd son (3.5
yrs ago), I tried and tried, but no matter what I tried with pillows or
hubby to support my back, I couldn't get comfy enough to BF lying down. My
back hurt like crazy, I couldn't get my legs comfy, even with pillows.
Nothing worked, so I quit trying after several weeks. Nighttime feeds were
a PAIN, becuase it meant having to totally wake up and go into the living
room where my chair was and BF then go back to bed. With PJ, (now 13.5 mo
old) I am in the same bed as son #2, nothing else has changed, but I have no
problems BF him lying down. I don't know what changed, but I am glad it did.
I suspect that the way the body is tilted has something to do with being
able to lie down and BF. I know that with Ben (#2) I would tilt my pelvis
away from him while pushing the small of my back towards him, to try and
stabilize myself, do you know what I mean? My legs could never seem to get
comfy enough to keep me from feeling like I was going to roll over on my
back. With PJ, for some reason, I can keep my back straight and roll my
pelvis toward him a bit, legs leaning towards him a bit as well, and it is
very comfy. The only thing I sometimes have a problem with is my arm
falling asleep, but that is more related to my accident injury, than the
position. I do know that I tried this same posistion with Ben, but it
didn't work.
Any other thoughts on this one?
