Hello Everyone,
I got a call today from a mom of a baby with cardiac problems, a cleft palate
and Down syndrome. The baby is home from the hospital and is being tube-fed
fortified breast milk. The baby is having intestinal bleeding. Mother would
like to be giving just breast milk but the doctors are insisting on
fortification. They want 30 calories per ounce. Breast milk has about 20. I
hope I have these numbers right. The mother would like to skim some fat off
of breast milk and add it to pumped milk, but that is too imprecise for the
docs. They've been using soy milk. Can anyone help me on this? This is beyond
my level of expertise.
Thanks, Marilee Woodworth, IBCLC, LLLL, Ann Arbor, MI. USA
