The home-made formula recipe floating around the Internet and published in
a book by Western A. Price Foundation (WAPF) founder Sally Fallon has been
discussed in the past on Lactnet. In recent days there has been an
escalated effort to promote this WAPF-sponsored notion that it is healthier
for babies to receive this raw cow's milk-based formula than to be
breastfed by women who have anything other than an optimal, "nutrient
dense" diet.

There is quite an effort in social media underway right now to counter this
harmful advice and I'm sure some of you are already fielding inquiries from
confused mothers.

The whole foods movement is becoming a huge movement and of course it is
attracting many entrepreneurs selling everything from books to seminars to
supplements. We all saw what happened when Mercola tried to launch an
organic baby formula - the resulting outcry and backlash was the birth of a
global Facebook milksharing network.

People who follow the dietary advice of groups like WAPF already do not
trust guidelines and information provided by mainstream health entities, so
it will be challenging to find ways to counsel the "true believers." There
are many loose adherents however who will be seeking and who deserve
evidence-based information and advice.

I've posted some of the recent blog posts and statements on the subject,
below. If you have time, pop into the Friends of the WHO Code Facebook
group, or Lactnet on Facebook to interact and support some of the
breastfeeding advocates who are working in the trenches on this one.
