Hi all,

I have a neighbor who happens to be an RN, very pro-BF who has been dx'd
with Rheumatoid Arthritis for about a year. She has a 6 (8?) week old
baby who was slightly IUGR; baby gaining well, developing great! She
was taking Daypro (NSAID-not sure of generic name) during first 2
trimesters, then stopped when the IUGR was discovered. She hasn't taken
any since, but her symptoms are getting worse. She's open to some
alternative stuff-- has been adjusting diet, taking vitamins, etc. Feels
she is headed back to Methotrexate, but doesn't want to stop nursing her
precious baby.

1) Soo.. where can she and I read about RA and bfing?

I checked my LLL stuff and I only have last couple years of JHL's--didn't
see anything there. Answer book is silent.

I have shared Briggs and the AAP med guidelines with her so she'll have
something when she talks to the rheumatologist. It looks like most
NSAIDS are considered safe (but she's scared of at least daypro, wouldn't
you be?) and gold is considered compatible too. And of course, prednisone
is considered ok.

2) Do any of you have a favorite article or info on evaluating drug
information? AAP and (most times) Briggs will flat out tell you "yes or
no", but other services such as Univ. of Roch. (Ruth Lawrence's place)
give you info on bioavailablity and % protein bound, etc. I think I've
got some handle on how to assess this info., but would like to learn
more.

Thanks in advance,

Meg Wright, PA-C
