I've worked with several pregnant 12 yr. olds, 13 when they delivered. At
least one of them nursed really amazingly well, for about a year, and I was
really impressed. Good family support, and a good kid. I think that the
biggest "special concern" (other than all the psychsocial issues with a mom
that young) is being sure that she gets enough calories to meet her own
growth needs as well as the babies. Actually,it's been my experience that
the really young moms usually do a litte better on their own nutrition than
some of the older teens, because they are usually living with family or in
an institution, so they tend to get fed by others.

Just remembered another 12 yr. old who did a real good job BFing; she was
Vietnamese, lived with a very extended family, and her baby was huge and
thriving - the girl was about 72 pounds herself, and I remember seeing her
lugging around this gigantic, plump, totally BF baby!
