We've discussed this before ... I was under the impression that severe
engorgement will affect this lactation, but not necessarily the next
(presuming there's no severe engorgement next time). And this has been my
experience in my practice.
I know Peter Hartman's work is now showing that breast growth during
pregnancy doesn't necessarily reflect breast function at 1 month. But we
also know that proliferation of alveoli does occur for most women during
pregnancy - therefore can't we assume that rapidly involuted alveoli from
engorgement last lactation may reform next lactation - or perhaps new ones
in their place.

I wish Peter was on Lactnet. I believe there are some of his Masters
students here though - any care to comment?

Denise
