I have come across this too. However, be aware that the new parents may
want to keep their baby with them, but are being pressured by their
families to send it to China. This can be a heartbreaking situation,
especially if the new family are undocumented, and/or earning minimum wages
and may be depending on local (USA) friends and family for housing or jobs.
Another complication is the pressure to bottle feed as this may be seen as
the American way, and of course there would be added pressure to do that if
the baby was was going to be sent to China.
Now add the language barrier... If at all possible use a translator who is
not a relative of the parents, and who speaks Mandarin as that is the most
common and official language, as there are many, many dialects in the
country.
