Hi All,
New topic and question for you all. I work as a PC for WIC here is
Sacramento, CA. I counsel our moms in crisis (prem babies in hosp, nipple
confusion babes, babes who can't/won't latch etc. ) who are using electric
breast pumps, on loan from WIC, in order to keep up/ build up their milk
supplies. Many of my moms are hispanic and follow culture closely. My
problem? I'm not hispanic and know very little about the culture. One of my
moms asked me if it would be ok for her to give the traditional tea to her
baby. (he's 6 weeks old and in perfect health) I told her, honestly, that I
had no idea, and that she should talk to her Ped.
Can someone pleas explain to me, privately if you want, about the Hispanic
culture so that I don't feel like such an idiot? I felt like I lost some
credibility with this mom, but at least she thanked me for being honest with
her!
Please help! I am still learning about the many different cultures I am
working with, but I have a long way to go! Info on other cultures and their
BF traditions would be nice too!
TIA!
Jay
