"Now I know this is off topic so I will try not to post anymore on it.
I
just think the whole point is that while this doesn't directly link to
bfing, it does indirectly, especially for those of us who are more than
lactation consultants or counselors. This is info that I will be able
to
share with my preconception. counseling clients, my child birth
education
clients, my midwifery clients AND my lactation clients. It comes full
circle. Empowering women to feel good about their bodies and leading
them
to know their bodies can do wondrous things will go a long way in both
fields. I would assert that a woman who has confidence that she can
birth
normally will also have confidence that she can feed her baby normally
(read
breastfeed)."

Well said Melisa!

And I'd like to add that when the LC tells a mom to get her pelvis
measured that is, in my mind, akin to the pediatrician suggesting that a
woman's breasts may be too small to produce milk. It is important for us
not to advise on what we don't know about. It's especially important
that we not rely on obstetric knowledge based in our own, years old,
personal experiences! We know alot of OB personnel who do so with
lactation knowledge and we tend to disdain it every time one of them
suggests limiting time at the breast to prevent sore nipples or
supplementing until the milk comes in. If the best you can offer someone
is outdated information.... best offer them none at all. Just MHO.

Susan
