One of the downfalls of living in the sunshine state is that we have
our share of women who undergo breast surgery. Months ago, I came across a
mom, Tammy, who had peri-areolar, submuscular augmentation. To provide a
brief description: a half moon incision is made both underneath the areola
and breast.

Well, the experience was heart-rendering. Tammy's baby, Matthew, was
a super nursing baby. We could not have asked for a better latch, but Tammy
basically NEVER developed a descent milk supply. The breast augmentation had
only occurred one year prior to the birth of the baby. Her plastic surgeon
had assured her that she would be able to nurse. Tammy tried valiantly to
increase her supply. She was checked for placental fragment, and tried
fenugreek and reglan. NOTHING worked. She never got above 2 oz. supply per
day. At six weeks, she finally gave up.

I just got another call from a woman who had the same surgery.
Considering what the other mother went through, I don't want to sound like
her doctor--who by the way, has also told her that it should not affect
nursing in any way (<<ugh!). According to this mother, he told her, "I have
only cut a couple of ducts, and there are at least 15 per breast." I WOULD
LOVE TO KNOW IF ANY OF YOU HAVE HAD THE SAME NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE THAT I HAVE
OR IF THERE ARE SOME SUCCESS STORIES OUT THERE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW....
