Hi all,

Unfortunately, I am not talking personally here. Sigh. Oh well. Martha, oh
queen of nutrition trivia - sudden thought - perhaps if I ate ants I could
refer to my own weight loss?? Not what I meant to write at all. You
mentioned a baby that lost a pound in 3 days. My question for youall is, how
much of that loss is water weight, and how much is fat? Are we seeing babies
that have excessive fluid overload at birth, thus increasing birth weights
and subsequent losses? Is it at all related to the birth process & numbers
of IVs, meds, Pitocin, etc. that mom receives? How can we tell the
difference (if there is one)? I agree, we need to be diligent about watching
these babies, but when we have one that loses weight so dramatically, I
wonder what is going on. Remember, it wasn't so very long ago that newborns
were not fed ANYTHING for around 24 hours. And they didn't seem to suffer...
I don't think.... (I was probably one of those...maybe it was that, the ether
& forceps that is my problem....)

Just curious....
