I think you misunderstand my position if you think I'm not respecting
values that "are not only different than mine but sometimes seem
completely absurd to me" :) Actually, since i am part of an orthodox
community here (though less observant in some areas than my close
friends), "their" values, for the most part, are mine as well.

When you hear me expressing frustration, it's probably just my
frustration with my own personal difficulties with fasting. And the fact
that there was no one else to watch my kids.

Truly.

My frustration is with the lack of solutions that place importance on
breastfeeding. Staying in bed is a fantastic idea. When I say "who
will care for the other kids" it's not to say that the idea of staying
in bed isn't a good one and should be discarded because there isn't
anyone to carefor the kids, but simply to say that it's difficult at
times to find someone who can. Just venting. not looking for you to
solve the problem:)

And when I said that it "drives me nuts", I was speaking to the
assertion from everyone that fasting won't affect the breastfeeding baby
and that if it does, just give bottles. To me, that is simply not a
solution that should even me in the mix. If a mom wants to do that of
her own volition, well, then, so be it. But for Rabbi's and Rebbetzins
to offer that as the simple pat solution so that a mom can make it
through a fast is quite close to irresponsible.

AFAIC breastfeeding/nursing/breastmilk are extremely important and
shouldn't be jeopardized even for religious reasons. I'm sure that both
sets of needs can be met - the religious needs of the mother, and the
nursing needs of the nursing dyad - with breastfeeding, not
bottlefeeding or supplementing solutions.
