Hello all! I have been browsing on Lactnet, picking up many ideas
and interesting discussions for four months. I am a LLL leader in
Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada.

I have not read the review of Desmond Morris' book, nor have I read
the new illustrated Babywatching. I have read and referred to many times
his original Babywatching published in 1991. In this book he does
say again that "certain mothers, with very full, round breasts" have
difficulty and talks about "the innefficiency of the full rounded
breast." He goes on to explain that the breast is rounded for
"sexual signalling" and that the "problem is easily solved."

Doesn't anybody else out there think the modern human breast could
have a slightly better design? I don't think that saying this out loud
undermines our support of bf. If we never wore bras wouldn't we have
long teats like women in more "natural" societies?

I find this Babywatching book a good support for breastfeeding
and instinctive parenting, as it is not a parenting guide but
observations of the human as animal. Under the chapter heading "What
kind of milk is best for the baby?" he writes, "Biologically
speaking, it is ridiculous to ask such a question." He then lists 11
advantages of bf and four misconceptions that lead to bottlefeeding.

I certainly wouldn't want to be judged now on what I wrote in 1967!

Donna Andrea, in beautiful summer-like Antigonish
