Follow up on the lawsuit filed by Mead Johnson in Toronto, Canada, against

newspaper today.

MEAD 'CALLS KETTLE BLACK'

        Mead Johnson, the infant formula company that is trying to force a
rival to scrap br-milk similarity claims for a new formula, has faced
similar troubles itself.
        Mead was asked by Health Canada last year to remove a claim from its
Enfalac package saying the formula was 'modelled after mother's milk.....
        ....Lalonde [Mead director of marketing] countered that the
companies have generally supported brfding experts in trying to convince
mothers brfding is the single best source of nutrition for infants......
        ......Lalonde said the mother's milk claim by his company last year
was not an attempt to tout Enfalac as being "just like" breast milk, and did
not pitch any particular benefit provided by the formula.
        On the other hand, according to Mead court documents, Similac
Advance's new claim goes so far as to say it is "clinically proven to offer
benefits previously associated only with breast milk."
        The current legal scuffle is expected to be heard in court later
this week.
