I am looking for advise... I have been working with a mom for over a month. She started out nursing fine for the first few weeks, then complained of nipple burning and baby had thrush. We treated with Monistat and baby was treated with Nystatin. Things felt only slightly better after 2 weeks so we talked the Dr into Diflucan but the mom could only afford a couple of days worth. She has now used Jack's nipple cream for 2 weeks and the burning is completely gone, but now she says the nipples are always red and she still has nipple pain
when she nurses or pumps that comes and goes. (describes it as a stingy pain like an open cut) At first I assumed the tissue was still just tender from being compromised but now it has been quite a long time. Are we expecting the nipples to feel better too soon, or is there something I am missing?
Thank you. Claudia Globerger RN/IBCLC Gurnee, IL
