I am asking about wording that your hospital uses on intake on breastfeeding. Because we track intention of a mother to exclusively breastfeed and actual number of mothers who are successful at discharge, we need to ask the mothers of their intentions to exclusively breastfed on admission. Unfortunately, when this question is asked to the patient on admission, it gives the implication that breastfeeding can be successful if mother chooses to do breast and formula feeding. I am not sure that I am making myself clear. Do you ask if mother's intend to breastfeed and assume they are intending to exclusively breastfeed unless medically indicated? Do you ask if they will "do both"?
Thank you in adnvance,
Mary Westra R.N., IBCLC
