Minimum settings work better on lymphedema extremity pumps also, from our
experience with swollen limbs. Women (and men) who purchased pumps and used
them on high settings created tissue damage. Slow and low pressure is what
is prescribed now, though manual lymph drainage, sort of like hand milk
expression of the breast, is what is really safe and effective-even more so
than these electric pumps with pressure sleeves.

There is another much more significant difference between the Pump In Style
and Classic than the plug--the pump mechanism itself. Both the Pump In
Style and the Symphony are diaphragm pumps, whereas the hospital-grade pumps
(and the Ameda Purely Yours) are piston pumps. Piston pumps are generally
regarded as being more effective than diaphragm pumps.

He spoke specifically about one woman who got the most milk at around 75
mmHg (the minimum setting on many hospital-grade pumps) and when she
increased the vacuum, she got less milk.
