Barbara,

I understand that. My point is a nurse is hired as a nurse - so being moved
for staffing needs understandable (usually told before hand - when you come
in later today report to this area instead). Hiring someone for lactation
and saying we also want a nurse to pull you away from your job to work
somewhere else should also as unacceptable as pulling IT people to do
maintence/cleaning neither one does direct patient care but they still
aren't interchangeable. My friend works in HR she doesn't get pulled into
admitting or billing or another business department, she was hired to work
in HR.

Hopefully someday hospitals will start treating the hospital LC's with the
same respect as other hospital workers. Meaning the work you do is valuable
so you will always do that job unless you want to transfer to another
department (with the proper training/experience), not that we will only hire
you if you are also a nurse so we can pull you out to do some important
work. Which if you think about it could be applied any job in a hospital.
