Mary, I don't have the answers to all of your questions, but I do have some
thoughts. First of all, a prolactin level of 198 in the last month of
pregnancy (if I read correctly) is perfectly normal-- even up to 300 or 400.
Regarding the lack of MER, that certainly sounds like an oxytocin issue. One
thing you might have checked is the mom's thyroid level. Poorly controlled
hyperthyroidism during pregnancy can affect oxytocin and MER, and we have
documented such cases. Whether it is related to the hyperprolactinemia, I
don't know, but obviously there are hormonal issues going on here. I would
see if thyroid could be checked now, and after birth if a problem arises
again. And yes, pursue the oxytocin spray. It can be compounded-- see
archives for Frank Nice's post, or see Ruth Lawrence or Hale.
