Hi, I have followed 4-5 clients like this. Several have needed home IV
antibiotics (done by visiting nurse or dosed as outpatient at the hospital
twice daily). Ruth Lawrence's book describes use of low dose antibiotics
for several months once the acute infection has resolved. I would guess
that this woman has never really healed from her original Mastitis and she
needs much closer monitoring. In addition to the medical management I would
strongly encourage you to help her get 1-2 weeks of household help,
excellent nutrition and rest so that her immune system can begin to recover.
" Rest and nurse, drink and nurse, eat and nurse." She has had pregnancy,
delivery, surgery and chronic infection, even if she stops breast feeding
she will still need time and care to recover from all of those events. Once
she has been free of infection for some time, her physicians may wish to do
an ultrasound. One of my clients did have a very early ductal carcinoma
which was detected in this way due to her repeated plugged ducts and
mastitis episodes just on one breast. Not to scare anyone, but it can
happen.
good luck,
tracy
