regarding containers - it was my understand that with the gerber storage
bags and other thinner bags up to 60% of the antibodies could be lost with
long term storage. Also I was under the impression that the specimen
containers were not made of the correct type of plastic. This could also
result in that soapy smell later down the road plus a breakdown of the
plastic -

We are even questioning Medela about the material their bags are made of and
are still waiting to hear from our rep after several months - evidently it
is a tough subject - I would love to hear more discussion on this topic from
anyone who has more information - thanks
Rose Marie Straeter, BS, IBCLC - who just sat for the exam for the second
time and passed - yeah! I was more nervous this second time than the first
- for some strange reason.

Subject: EBM containers in NICU

Greetings....Judi asked about containers used for storing EBM in the NICU.
We had done a great deal of research on which container to use, and finally
decided that sterile hard plastic specimen containers are the best ones for
VLBW babies. (If you're interested in the specific order # and the company
to order from, e-mail me privately). For full-term sick babies, we use
Gerber breastmilk storage bags.
