I have found the discussion on OCD very interesting and insightful. I thought that I might provide another perspective to both assessment and treatment.

Not all therapists use medical terms to define their clients' symptoms. Some therapists, who do not use medical models when working with clients, might not define clients who present with repetitive thoughts or behaviors as OCD. Instead the presenting symptoms might be framed simply as "repetitive thoughts and behaviors".

Rather than using drugs, other interventions include cognitive behavioral strategies or deeper investigative work to find the origins of these behaviors. Some might also look at diet and sleep patterns and ways to enhance these activities.

Hence, not every breastfeeding mother who presents with apparent OCD, will have the same patterns, thoughts or will need or want the same treatment. The very meaning of OCD is different for every client. As I am sure most of you agree, an individualized approach is always best!
