Hello -

I'm wondering whether anyone has come across milk storage guidelines (fridge/freezer) specific for breastmilk that has been scalded. I've checked the archives and the texts I own; I'm guessing there aren't formal ones but wanted to see if I'm missing something.

From a logical perspective, it seems to me that the scalding would remove some of the active components in the breastmilk that might keep bacteria and such down, but that the scalding would also likely inhibit the growth of some nasties. In the absence of other evidence, then, I would suggest a mother follow standard protocols. Other thoughts?

Thank you -
Morgan Kennedy Henderson, IBCLC
