I have heard discussion of this incident also. FYI if you search using a
search engine like google.com and view the cached copies of articles you
can find some references. FYI:

Also, it occurs to me to wonder how effective this strategy is for
discovering hostile chemicals, explosives, etc. in liquids in the first
place. First, would all of these/any of these chemicals have a
demonstrable instant effect on a traveler that a security worker would
recognize? (E.g. "the traveler turned blue after drinking, so he's
carrying napalm! Quick, arrest that person!") If it isn't an instant
result, but just effects the perpetrators health long-term (and still
allows them enough function to board and carry out a nefarious
mission)... well obviously if that person is carrying explosives onto an
airplane he/she isn't worried about his/her long term health anyway.
Second, can't a prepared hostile traveler mitigate the effects - for
example by eating activated charcoal before drinking?

Just a little application of logic here would help the transportation
authorities. This screening process seems unlikely to stop an evildoer,
and instead will just annoy travelers.
