Re: NICU/other health care: << I think some of the frustration with NICUs
comes from the fact that most parents can't choose their neonatologist or
nursing staff...It seemed that no matter what we said or did the staff
refused to believe that we shared the common goal of doing what was best for
the baby (they really thought my friend was just trying to gratify her own
emotional needs - at the expense of her baby - by bf)....How can parents get
"permission" to kangaroo their babies when the staff has never heard of the
concept? >>

The evidence/research-based benefits of human milk (with eventual
breastfeeding) and Kangaroo care for NICU babes are "old news" to any HP that
has bothered to pick up a peer-reviewed journal or check a text or attend a
conference in the last 5 years! This staff should be ashamed. Maybe someone
can make a few bucks by offering to teach them how to do a quick lit search
via the internet--although most docs have access to such searches via the
institutions where they have privileges. (Interesting word "privileges")...
And having to get "permission" to provide extremely well-documented,
evidence-based interventions for one's own baby--what's wrong with this
picture?
