I just read the excellent book "The Problem with Breastfeeding" by  
James Akre, which described how it's not mothers who breastfeed, but  
societies.  After reading this, I really feel that we should de- 
emphasize our efforts to convince mothers to breastfeed, and redouble  
our efforts to convince society to support mothers.  Seventy percent  
of mothers are already choosing to breastfeed in the hospital.  It is  
so easy for us to put our focus on moms, because that is who we see,  
but many mothers are feeling pressured and not supported.  If we can  
convince HCPs, grandmothers, employers, and random people in the  
mall, that breastfeeding is important and it is THEIR job to help  
support mothers, and tell them exactly how to do so, then maybe we  
will see 70% breastfeeding at 3 months, 6 months, and beyond.
