Hi all,
I am experiencing a problem with getting gentian violet in Western
Australia. I have recommended its use to a client with thrush and
have been told it is banned in Australia. However its use is
mentioned in the ALCA May 1997 issue and it is the Breastfeeding
protocol for the Royal Womens hospital in Melbourne, not to mention
Jacks handout which we got a copy of after his tour of Australia. So
what is going on here. I rang King Edward today (our main teaching
hospital in Western Australia), they told me it is banned. I thought
I was recommending the correct treatment to the client and now I must
say, I do feel like a fool. Can any Australians in particular tell
me if they have had any luck with obtaining gentian violet. Also is
there anything published to say it is safe to use now?
