If a patient has sleep apnea/hypoxia, then it is possible that when she sits
down with the baby, she could be drowsy enough to
induce a hypoxic state and a panic attack. Almost every new mom at three
weeks is sleep deprived, and can doze off quickly.
If the mom is a bit chubby, or has a thick neck she could be predisposed to
sleep apnea. Even a small reduction in oxygenation can initiate a full
blown panic attack. This could be a separate issue from breastfeeding.
